Congratulations to the Ekati Surface and Underground Mine Rescue Teams – Overall Winners at the 59th Annual Mine Rescue Competition!
Procon would like to congratulate the members of the Ekati Emergency Response Teams for winning the Overall Surface and Overall Underground categories at the 59th Annual Mine Rescue Competition. Five mines from the Northwest Territories and Nunavut competed in Yellowknife on June 11, 2016.
Procon has two employees on the Ekati Underground Mine Rescue team (Gordon Zdyb and Randy Zdebiak) and one employee on the Ekati Surface Mine Rescue team (Stuart Wray).
In addition to winning the overall titles, the Ekati teams won the following events: firefighting, rope rescue, surface written, underground bench, surface obstacle, and Procon employee Gordon Zdyb won the bench technician.
As winners of the 2015 Western Canada Mine Rescue competition in Fernie BC, Ekati’s Underground Mine Rescue team qualified to compete at the 10th International Mine Rescue Competition (IMRC) in Sudbury, Canada. Approximately 30 teams representing 20 nations will be competing from August 19th through 26th, 2016. Procon would like to wish the team good luck at the upcoming 2016 IMRC!
