21st Annual Mining for Miracles Campaign
BC Children’s Hospital is Procon’s charity of choice and every year we participate
in the Mining for Miracles Campaign. Over the past 20 years, BC's mining community
has raised over $10.5 million for the Hospital including a record $1.9 million in
2007.
In 2008 the Mining for Miracles Campaign is focused on raising funds for the construction
of a level 3 bio-containment (CL3) lab that will be located in the new Child and
Family Research Institute at BC Children's Hospital. This state-of-the-art bio-containment
lab will be a cornerstone facility for a group of world-class researchers who study
highly infectious diseases that affect children and families in BC. These researchers
are dedicated to understanding infectious diseases, that are now the world's leading
killer of children and young adults, and preventing them. Through their efforts
to understand the predisposing factors of infectious disease, we can improve the
lives of children and families in BC and across Canada.
The CL3 Lab at BC Children's Hospital will be the only one of its kind in Canada
and it is a wonderful opportunity to help fund the development of a world-class
research group in our own backyard. The Mining for Miracles Campaign's goal is to
raise $3 million over the next two years to fund construction of the lab.
Procon’s head office staff contribute in the form of an online auction. Donated
items are put up for auction and employees bid on them. The company matches the
total raised. It’s a really fun way to contribute to a worthwhile cause.
This year’s auction will run from May 14th to 16th, 2008.
